The Senior Proton Therapy Service Engineer - Software works on-site at a proton therapy treatment center as part of a team of engineers to install, maintain, and operate the proton therapy system (PTS).  The focus is on administration of the IT infrastructure, and software testing, debugging, configuration, and upgrades.  In addition, this individual will become certified to operate the PTS during patient treatment and will be qualified to debug basic issues that arise in any component of the system (including electrical and mechanical issues).
Job Duties of the role:
  1. Integrate new software functionality and support the installation of new hardware devices into the system when upgrades are scheduled.
  2. Support the integration and maintenance of the TPS/OIS interface between the IBA PTS system and hospital oncology environment.
  3. Understand the intricate details of the software configuration and act as the administrator to maintain these calibration files.
  4. Execute all assigned system test/validation procedures and report failures accurately.
  5. When problems arise, perform detailed log analyses, analyze source code, and perform testing as necessary to find root causes.
    1. Clinical software is always installed and configured properly and validated per applicable test procedures.
    2. Software and IT upgrades are tested and installed on schedule.
    3. For any assigned bugs, a solution or contribution is made in a timely manner.
    4. Bugs reports are filed with enough detail when new issues are discovered.
  6. Regularly monitor servers and workstations to ensure preventable problems do not arise.
  7. Maintain backups.





  1. Restore functionality of IT equipment when it is lost.
  2. Manage hosts, debug issues, and ensure proper use of the network.
    1. Servers and workstations operate properly, without interruptions due to preventable issues.
    2. Recently updated backups are always available.
    3. All production equipment communicates as expected on the network.
    4. Downtime due to hardware failure or software problems is minimal.
  3. Become certified to operate the PTS and maintain a high level of system knowledge.
  4. Contribute to the shared responsibility of preparing the system for treatment hours.
  5. Troubleshoot issues that arise which may impact clinical operations, and address customer questions and concerns.
  6. Contribute to preventative maintenance efforts.
  7. Provide training and documentation to support other team members.
    1. Downtime is minimized during treatment hours.
    2. High customer satisfaction.
    3. Any assigned preventative maintenance tasks are performed in a timely manner.
    4. Downtime or delays are not caused by miscommunication or failure to share information.
Requirements of the Role: 
  1. Advanced Java/C++ /Maven programming skills programming skills.
  2. Experience with Subversion software repositories or similar.
  3. Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  4. Advanced knowledge of scripting languages (such as Bash).
  5. Superb communication skills and customer service skills
  6. Basic network architecture and debugging knowledge.
  7. Experience operating complex systems.
  8. Basic understanding of circuits and electrical work.
  9. Experience with basic maintenance of mechanical equipment.
